Once a covenant
signed in stars
a nation born
through prison bars
A light for those
who dare to dream
now a broken facade –
a dying scream
America the beautiful
America the great
America Restored –
oh, how we wait
In God We Trust
yet how we’ve strayed
in the enemy’s name
lives are executed –
souls are slain
The House Divided
needs no invader
when the poison within
becomes crusader
no cannon’s fire
no foreign hand
We the People
scorch
this promised land
One Nation,
under God
indivisible
once claimed –
yet hatred, murder
and evil remain
God Bless America; the land I love
rotten to the core
the world I see
and now I know
there has to be
more
For a house divided
is a house that cannot stand –
a fall at the forfeit
of our very own hand.
